This week, Dr. Dre released the first single from his long-awaited third album Detox.
The producer and rapper is teaming up with his long-time partner-in-crime Snoop Dogg as well as Akon in the new single, Kush, which is slated for release on iTunes on Thursday.
The song, which can be heard on YouTube, features a trademark Dre piano loop with a heavy bass-line.
Director Joseph Kahn said last week on Twitter that he is looking to make a video for Dre but didn’t mention which song.
For the past several years, Detox has been delayed, but Billboard reported that the release of Kush means the long-awaited album may arrive in the New Year. Dre is slated to appear on the cover of XXL for the December–January issue with a headline that says “Yes, Detox is coming,” according to Billboard.
The song makes many references to smoking marijuana, but the 45-year-old rapper says the entire album won’t be about pot, a la 1992’s iconic The Chronic.
“This is actually the only song with that type of content in it,” Dre said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “But it seems that everybody likes it. So we’re going to go ahead and push with it.”
