TAINAN, Taiwan—Preoccupied with his career, Lin Mingyuan, a processing factory director of the well-known Taiwanese conglomerate Formosa Plastic Group, rarely watched any artistic performances.
But after seeing the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour presentation on Feb. 21, Mr. Lin felt a sense of satisfaction, and that he had benefited from the show. He was also impressed with DPA’s efforts to revive ancient Chinese culture of five millennia.
The final program, Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope, deeply touched Mr. Lin, a specialist in the chemical industry.
He felt that everyone has to understand the truth. By understanding truth, he said, one will come to understand life’s values and thereby contribute more to his work and to society. In the program, Mr. Lin felt the backdrop, presenting a Buddha sitting upright in the center of rotating energy, revealed the chemical structure of electrons, atoms, protons, and neutrons. “Based on physics, at a certain level you will approach the state of a Buddha.”
He said: “It appears that natural phenomena corresponds to life. DPA informs people of the principle of sticking to the truth. The principles are truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance, which is also natural law. On the other hand, anything against natural law can never last long. Through its beautiful performances, DPA tells audiences what natural law is.”
Mr. Lin said that, upon returning home, he would seriously contemplate the meaning of life.
Theatergoer Tan Chongsyong, who studied vocal music as a youngster, accompanied his grandmother, Han Siangjyun, a painter, to watch the DPA presentation.
Ever since elementary school, Mr. Tan had been immersed in the arts. Upon seeing the dancer’s superb physical performances, he was greatly impressed. He especially loved the role of the pig in The Monkey King Triumphs.
He said that it was not easy for the pig to maintain his sleeping posture for so long. Yet, the dancer also managed to capture the pig’s unique charm and style, expressing its details, and also giving the audience a good laugh—not to mention that the pig finished with a handspring starting from a low posture, which was much more difficult than done from a normal height.
Mr. Tan considered the program Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution to be wonderful. He said: “The father was tortured to death, and his little girl was crying miserably. The mother was overwhelmed with helplessness. These clearly manifested the entire context, and profound feelings greatly touched my heart. ”
He believed the young dancers must have gone through very strict and solid training to reach such a professional standard. He noted that their balance and control while lifting only one foot was much more difficult than their dynamic movements.
