TAICHUNG,Taiwan—On the night of March 8, Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company held its last show in Hui-Sun Auditorium of National Chung Hsing University, Taichung. Shyu Shuhua, mayor of Nantou City, watched the show with her friends.
“It was the first time I have seen such special dance performances. Shen Yun has put the historical essence of 5,000 years of Chinese history into this unique show.
“For people who don’t know much about history, they would gain more knowledge of poets [The Poet’s Vision], legends, historical figures, and dance performances.
“Shen Yun conveyed a very important spirit; namely, people who came to this world with the purpose of contributing to the society positively. The show was not only wonderful to watch, but it also brought a very deep meaning,” Ms. Shyu said.
When the show’s program Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution was mentioned, Ms. Shyu said, “Society is a big melting pot, and 5,000 years of history has has a blend of many cultures. All of them should be respected. I feel that in this respect, DPA gave us a very good artistic representation. It made me think deeply.
“With the vocalists expressing themselves through their songs and the lyrics on the backdrops, I feel that it was a very good connection to the theme of Shen Yun, and it constantly reminded us to be compassionate.”
One of the Shen Yun programs, The Monkey King Triumphs, delineates a scene from the 16th century novel Journey to the West.
“‘The Monkey King Triumphs evoked my childhood memories. This was the first time I had seen the legend manifested through dance.”
She said that she was glad she had a front row seat. “The dancers conveyed their emotional delicacy through gestures. I carefully looked at every performer’s countenance. Even when the dancers faced away from the audience, the performers still had their backs absolutely straight, and were very absorbed into the plots.
“They are dedicated. Even the movements of the little dancer [Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution] were very solid. Their bearing lasted throughout all the programs.”
