ANTWERP, Belgium—The opening of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour at the renowned Stadsschouwburg in the city center of Antwerpen on Feb. 23, was a delight for audience members.

Among them was the general adviser of a major bank in Antwerpen, Mr. Fleurent who was accompanied by his friend, Mrs. van Krunkelsven.

“These girls are so nice, unbelievable. It was ... elegant,” Mr. Fleurent said.

While it is in classical Chinese dance that the artists of DPA have their foundational training , the New York-based company’s performances include Chinese ethnic and folk dance making for a unique vision of Chinese traditional culture.

Mr. Fleurent admired the costumed dancers. “Very nice, and the costumes—very colorful and very flowing. It is like they have no weight.”

A professional hairdresser, Mrs. van Krunkelsven, said she was very impressed with the show. “This is special, it is something new, something different,” she said.

She had initially wondered how the dancers’ hairpieces managed to stay in place, but she quickly became absorbed in the show.

“Technically it is perfect, the synchronization is very good and of course the colors, the clothing,” she said.

They both said they had enjoyed the unique orchestral music, a blend of Western and Chinese composition.
