Ms. Mueller-Davidse, an independent legal contractor, and her husband, a financial manager at an insurance company, were glad that they had bought tickets.
“I liked all of the performances! The show had very impressive costumes, and it was so synchronized. The dancers were so wonderful,” Ms. Mueller-Davidse said smiling delightedly.
Her husband said, “The dancers looked as if they were all medal-winners.”
Ms. Mueller-Davidse said: “I came here with my brother as a birthday present, because he speaks a little bit of Chinese. He was watching the show and found it very good. We also liked the translation shown on the backdrop.”
Her brother said: “The scene knowing the truth [Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope], and that makes a difference. They were also several songs with spiritual content in this show. I liked that very much, and that they were translated.”
He smiled and then said, “Also, the monkey-dance [The Monkey King Triumphs] was a lot of fun. It was a funny story.
“Chinese stories are filled with these characters ... coming from the heavens and intervening in everyday life. The story about the Monkey King—it’s an integral part of Chinese culture, this Monkey King. It’s something everybody in China knows about, starting from primary school.”
Ms. Mueller-Davidse also mentioned that she liked the dance Heaven Awaits us Despite Persecution.
The scene is a glimpse into the reality of contemporary China, and shows the persecution of a Falun Gong practitioner in China. “It was a critical dance about China, but it also brought a glorious scene ...”
The scenes that ultimately unfold in this program present a message of hope and bespeak of a longstanding Chinese belief that good people are ultimately rewarded, even if not in this lifetime.
“I find it good that they have a dance like this for schools. Because, it also is part of the 5,000 years of Chinese history contained in the show.
“I’ve never been to China, but I always liked China. You know, it’s always an interesting culture. About the 20th century-China—it really opened my eyes. The dancers, the music, the orchestra—just about everything was amazing!” she said.
