A dad-of-two has lovingly transformed his run-down garden shed into a beautiful writing room for his wife’s 40th birthday.
Richard Binmore, from Chandler’s Ford in Hampshire, South East England, spent just 750 pounds (approx. US$1,015) and five days on the stunning room and lovingly restored the shed alongside his dad and his eldest son, Casey.
His wife, Cheryl, works for the NHS but enjoys writing and has already penned several short stories.
“It was a 40th birthday present to my wife,” Binmore said. “She’s always wanted a space of her own to write, she has written several short stories and is always working on her next story.”
Binmore, 43, who works as an engineer, set about making the secret room for her so she could have a place to call her own that would be really calming, as she works full time and is a mother to young boys.
He transformed the run-down 7-by-5-foot shed into a secret writer’s hideaway, complete with heating, electricity, and special wallpaper to create the illusion of bookshelves.
Binmore also credited Casey for the majority of the painting that was done outside and said that his son really enjoyed working with him and his father on this “lovely project.”
The shed, which was originally bought in 2006, is also kitted out with a writer’s desk, chair, and table lamp—all sourced from eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
“It’s quite small but it really does work quite well,” Binmore said.
