In the immortal words of Bonnie Tyler, “I need a hero! I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night.”

Little Adalynn Leary, or “Ady” to her parents, has had her very own hero since the day she was born, and she never has to wait ’til the end of the night for Fury the pit bull to show up. He’s there for her exactly when she needs him. So much so that an adorable video of the toddler and her beloved pup’s unique bond has taken the internet by storm.

Fear is a natural instinct, and Ady’s fear response was piqued after a major earthquake of 7.0 magnitude hit the Leary family’s hometown of Palmer, Alaska, in November of 2018. The family luckily made it through the terrifying ordeal unscathed. However, since the earthquake, Ady has had trouble falling asleep.

The little girl was too frightened to sleep alone and earthquake aftershocks only made it worse. “[W]e’ve had over 5,000 aftershocks,” Ady’s father, Kyle Leary, shared on Facebook. “Since then, Ady has been having severe anxiety and trouble sleeping.” With compassion for their nervous little girl, the Learys came up with a solution.

Fury would be allowed to sleep next to Ady’s bed. Having been the little girl’s “best friend and bodyguard” since day one, Fury was exactly the comfort that Ady needed.

Kyle set up a “nanny cam” to monitor Ady’s bedroom, since while Fury was a trusted family pet who had never shown signs of troubling behavior, a parent can never be too careful. Ady slept soundly for the first time in a long time, and Fury slept peacefully beside her.

That was until one night. “Normally he sleeps on the floor next to her bed,” Kyle shared, “but that night she called him up to cuddle him.”

The little girl woke from her slumber and did something so uniquely adorable that the camera footage was too much for the Learys’ eyes alone. The touched mom and dad simply had to share this heartwarming moment online. In the footage, little Ady wakes, sees her best bud sleeping by her side, and stretches across his hefty, 100-pound (approx. 45-kilogram) body to pull her blanket over him.

Fury takes up most of the bed, but far from elbowing him off the mattress so that she can spread out more comfortably, Ady clocks her buddy’s bare fur and worries for his comfort instead. Pulling her blanket up and over the sweet dog’s torso and head, Ady “tucks him in.” Honestly, it’s a little too cute to handle.

Kyle’s video has amassed nearly 50 million views to date. Comments flooded in, too, covering everything from squeals of delight to praise for the gentle giant in Ady’s bed all the way to concern for the little girl’s safety.

“I keep watching this video over and over as a pick me up,” shared one viewer. Another voiced concern: “As cute as it looks, no dog should be that close to a child unattended,” they wrote, “camera or not.” However, Kyle maintains that Fury is a part of the family.
According to the Daily Mail, Kyle explained: “I agree to never keep a child and animal unsupervised, but I have done over 100+ hours of training with [Fury].”

“There’s one thing I know,” the loving dad continued. “Fury isn’t just any animal.” With the hope of dispelling the negative reputation that pit bulls often fall victim to, Kyle explained his philosophy. “If you raise them with love,” he shared, “they only show love.”

Love was the only item on the agenda the night the nanny cam was rolling, that’s for sure. Little Ady has a personal hero for life.
