A one-year-old cat abandoned at a U.K. animal shelter was found with a heart-wrenching note from her former owner, hoping for a better home.
Colorful calico Lilo was left at the Manchester & Salford branch of the RSPCA in northwest England. While shelter staff did not meet her former owner, they were able to learn a lot about Lilo’s past life from an emotional note attached to her carrier.
The note read, “My mummy is sorry and she loves me very much, but she can’t keep me anymore ... I’m a good girl, and my mummy hopes someone will love me more. Please take care of me.”
The note went on to detail that Lilo loves treats and soft blankets “to make biscuits on.” An independent indoor cat, she loves to play and loves to snuggle on the end of the bed at night time.
“P.S. I have been with my mummy since birth so I’m not used to other people.”
“She soon settled and forged a strong relationship with her foster mom. This enabled us to introduce her to new people and find Lilo the purrfect match of an adopter,” the shelter posted.
On Feb. 16, Lilo was taken to meet her new adoptive mom, a happy ending to a sad separation story. The RSPCA credited teamwork for this “great success,” posting photos of Lilo snuggling in her very own cozy cat bed.
Netizens responded with love and support, with most commending the former owner’s choice.
One person posted, “You can tell from the note the owner loved her very much and how sad she was about letting her go.”
Another wrote, “I hope they know she’s going to a good home now, must have been a very difficult thing to do.”
