Scholastic Launches Harry Potter Reading Club
The Scholastic publishing house has launched the Harry Potter Reading Club, “an online destination created to share the magical world of Harry Potter with a generation of new readers.” The company revealed in its announcement of the club that Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling will pay a virtual visit to the site on Oct. 11 at noon EST, marking the first time since 2007 the author has taken questions from fans. The club can be found at hpread.scholastic.com.
Dennis Rodman to Release Children’s Book
A new children’s book will soon be hitting the shelves from a surprising source— former basketball star Dennis Rodman. Rodman, known for his wild antics, has penned “Dennis the Wild Bull,” to be released in October, according to the book’s website. The recent hall-of-fame inductee, who reportedly was inspired by recent events in his life to write the book, worked with co-author Dustin Warburton and illustrator Dan Monroe.
Jonah Lehrer Admits Lying, Resigns
Author and journalist Jonah Lehrer resigned from his post at The New Yorker after admitting the fabrication of quotes from musician Bob Dylan in his best-selling book “Imagine: How Creativity Works,” according to a statement released this week through his publisher. Lehrer lamented, “The lies are over now. I understand the gravity of my position. I want to apologize to everyone I have let down, especially my editors and readers.” Publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt plans to recall print copies of Lehrer’s book.
