A kitten in Boise was found with a crossbow bolt horrifically impaled through its eye. The Idaho Humane Society said the bolt penetrated the cat’s skull but, miraculously, did not damage its brain.

The organization is offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone who can offer information about how the kitten was shot or that could lead to a conviction of whoever committed the “barbaric act.”

On Oct. 26, the Idaho Humane Society released a statement on Facebook, sharing how a local witness called to report an injured white-and-orange cat.

They wrote: “A Boise resident reported a horrifying sight—an orange and white cat in terrible distress with what appeared to be a pencil sticking out of its left eye.”

The witness had thought the kitten had a pencil lodged in its eye, but when officers from the Humane Society arrived on the scene, they found that it was, in fact, a dart from a crossbow.

“Our officers responded and rescued the cat and rushed him to our Shelter Medical Center,” they said.

The kitten, who has been affectionately dubbed “Tigger,” according to KBTV7, was immediately examined by a veterinarian.

“Tragically, the potentially lethal projectile had penetrated through the feline’s eye, but an x-ray showed that it miraculously did not enter his brain,“ the Humane Society added. ”The arrow was removed under anesthesia, and the wounded cat was treated with antibiotics, pain medication, and IV fluids.”

Despite losing the eye, it didn’t take long for the kitten to recover. The very next morning, he was already purring and nuzzling against the veterinary staff as they continued care. Though he was feeling better, the friendly feline still had to undergo surgery to remove fragments from his eye socket.

The veterinary staff seem confident the loveable kitten will make a full recovery.

The Humane Society stated that Tigger is “a sweet boy who deserves a loving home,” and stressed that they are giving a $1,000 reward for anyone with information on the incident, or regarding the identity of the kitten, who was found near Owyhee and Cherry off Vista/Overland.

The Humane Society wrote, “Anyone with information on this cat’s identity or whoever shot the cat with a crossbow is urged to contact us at [email protected]. Any information provided may be anonymous.”
