An Arizona bird photographer spotted a pair of lovebird bald eagles seemingly kissing.
Mark Koster, a retired TV news director, documented the bird couple on April 28, a Sunday, as they perched on a power pole in Scottsdale.
“Last night both eagles, Bandit and Misty, came two miles south from their nest to get away from their eaglets and put on a show of some eagle affection for many park goers at Chaparral Park, right across the street from this power pole they shared for over an hour in the early evening,” he said.
The male bald eagle is a new father and is familiar to Mr. Koser, who photographs him regularly at the park. The photographer has taken an interest in the family of majestic birds, which have nested near his home.
When he saw the eagle parents sharing a moment alone atop a pole, he was able to capture a closeup of their intimate interaction.
“Bandit, the male, on the left, seemed to be acting almost kind of goofy to his mate, Misty, on the right,” he said. “These photos really show the personality of these magnificent creatures.”
It is thought that bald eagles mate for life, and couples perform various courtship rituals to strengthen their bond.
