A Texas musician had the best response when his mom, who has a larger-than-life personality, tried to set him up with a cashier while she bought socks for him.

Musician Todd Youngblood lives in Dallas, Texas. He speaks to his beloved mom, Melody, daily, and she doesn’t hide her desire to find him a woman. But when Melody called to say she'd met a “nice, normal” cashier while buying socks and had given out Todd’s email address, the musician’s response was priceless.

He shared their call on Instagram, and the story turned into a three-part saga, earning Todd’s mom a fanbase.

Todd told The Epoch Times, “My mom is a people person at heart, I’ve never met anyone who didn’t absolutely love her. It’s not surprising she started chatting up a cashier and talking about her kids!”

Melody Youngblood, who lives in Todd’s hometown of Amarillo, Texas, and works as a mental health counselor at West Texas A&M University, was on a girls’ trip to Washington, D.C., when she stopped for a pair of souvenir socks for her son.

“I figured I’d be on the lookout for some neat George Washington or Abe Lincoln socks for him,” Melody said. “We went into this cute little gift shop and I just started chatting it up with this nice cashier who was from a small town. We just started talking about where she is from, what her folks do, and what her future plans are. She seemed so nice and normal! Come to find out she is a music fan, and I told her that my son loves music as well!”

Melody settled on the George Washington socks but not before showing the cashier Todd’s Instagram page and giving out his email address.

“Toddy has been trying to meet some nice girls,” Melody said. “He doesn’t always like it if I give his info out, so I’ve toned it down a bit but Momma is just trying to help!”

Although Todd “rolls” his eyes every time his mother brings up another girl that she thinks is perfect for him in their conversations, he knows her intentions are good and that she means well.

As to what he thought about his mother giving out his email to the cashier, he said: “I wasn’t surprised when I heard she gave out my email but I was a little embarrassed. I asked her why she couldn’t have just given my number!”

Todd’s fun-loving mother has always been on board with sharing their conversations on social media. However little did Melody know that sharing this conversation on Instagram would make her the star of the show.

“It’s been cool seeing all the reaction to these videos on Instagram,” Todd told The Epoch Times. “I’ve had tons of people comment about loving my mom and I’ve had several people reach out saying they could be my ‘next D.C. girl.’”

In Part 2 and Part 3 of the saga, Todd revealed that he had not yet heard from the cashier at the gift shop, and his mother insisted she still had the woman’s number.

“Mom’s been a solid wing-woman! She says the contact info is buried somewhere in her purse,” Todd said, “I’d prefer to reach out to people who live in Dallas but if I get an email from her, I’ll definitely say hello.”

Todd’s passion for music began in college when a roommate of his gifted him a guitar. He soon discovered his love for expressing vulnerability through lyrics and joined songwriting circles and open mic nights in Houston. His first album in 2020 was a collection of songs about his family and personal struggles.

Today, Todd plays live around North Texas almost every weekend with his band, Todd Youngblood & The Lord’s Work. Their latest album, “Moons & Mornings,” is available on all streaming platforms and Todd describes their sound as “classic Americana with nods to Tom Petty, alternative rock, and country.”

“I wrote about adventures I had in my RV too, where I was living at the time,” Todd said.

His proud mom insists her son is “the whole package,” and supports him in all of his endeavors.

“I hope Toddy can tour with his music and get a record deal one day!” Melody said. “I also hope he can find a nice young lady to settle down with, once the time is right. I love my son and at the end of the day I just want him to be happy.”

Todd, who talks to his mom about everything from daily errands to dreams and struggles, said: “I know not everyone has a relationship with their folks like I do, and I’m grateful for that. ... I would definitely like to find love one day.”

“I’m holding out for the right person, while working on being the best person I can be!”
