A century-old fire engine that had seen better days has been refurbished for the local fire department in McDonald, Ohio.
The fire engine—a 100-year-old 1917 Model T—was decommissioned, left in a garage for many years, and was in rough shape.
McDonald’s now-retired fire chief Todd Stitt enlisted the help of Larry Manaro, a local mechanic, to fix up the fire engine.
Manaro, with assistance from Kevin Prus, Pro Image Sign Company in Youngstown, and Snyder’s Antique Parts, took a whole year to refurbish the engine.
Now, it looks like new.
“It is an accomplishment that you take it from nothing and you make into something, and people like to see it and enjoy looking at it,” Manaro told CBS.
The Model T fire truck was originally a donation to the village of McDonald from Carnegie Steel in 1920, which saw the fire department’s establishment.
