MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Stan Joyner, Mayor of Collierville, Tennessee, today declared February 8, 2009, an official day of celebration and support for the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour and Festivities.

The mayor praised the DPA world tour as a “multi-cultural holiday celebration that connects people around the world of different cultures and backgrounds and is a platform to unite and build bridges between cultures.”

Mayor Joyner is a native of this historic town east of Memphis where he has lived all his life. He has always been involved in civic life and belongs to the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

He commended the New York-based performance company for being “a great vehicle in which to promote art and culture in the form of performing arts and foster understanding between Chinese and Western cultures and provide an opportunity for Chinese communities worldwide to connect with Western Culture.”

The show is a visual feast of classical Chinese dance and ethnic and folk dance. Along with the live orchestra that combines Chinese and Western music and instruments, the show also features accomplished solo singers and musicians.

Mayor Joyner not only used the power vested in him to support DPA, he also supported it personally by attending the show with two family members. During the show his small granddaughter left her seat and crossed the aisle to stand on tiptoes, looking at the scenes on stage.

“She’s really getting into it. I’m glad it could come to Memphis,” said Mayor Joyner.
