ŁÓDŹ, Poland—Artists who come to see Shen Yun Performing Arts are often impressed with its beautiful color combinations.

“I like it very much. I’m very happy. The colors are amazing. It’s completely different from our tradition and that’s why it was so unique,” said Saranie Godajew, a graphic designer.

Shen Yun’s website says, “Every costume in a Shen Yun performance is presented with brilliant colors, displaying a splendid spectacle.”

“The colors were very vivid. On the one hand, they were calm, and on the other hand, it was bursting with a huge variety of colors, which was something amazing for the viewer,” Ms. Godajew said.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, China before communism.
“[This show] is stunning. I imagined China to be more gray. Here it was shown that China had a beautiful culture. And [it was shown] that there are people who want to bring back those old customs and ancient architecture. I am very happy that my partner encouraged me to come here and watch this beautiful performance,” said Kamil Rutkowski, a data scientist.
Although Shen Yun is showcasing the beauty of China with audiences around the world, it is unable to perform in China.

“I think it is very sad that in the country where this culture originated, such performances cannot be presented, and that the government is trying to destroy people who want to restore the ancient culture,” Mr. Rutkowski said.

“It’s a must-see and we will definitely return here next year,” Ms. Godajew said.

Bertrand Viennet, an accountant, was also at the performance and this was his second time seeing Shen Yun.

“This is the second time I’m seeing the show. It’s very marvelous. It’s fantastic,” Mr. Bertrand said.

Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“Incredible synchronization. The costumes are fantastic. There’s a lot of color, a lot of positive things, a lot of dancing. It’s a mix of theater, dance, [and] singing. It’s really fantastic. And it’s hard to find that in a show where there’s an accumulation of all these things,” Mr. Bertrand said.
