“Actually, she’s the one that said that she wanted to see it. We were driving by, we saw the sign, and she said, ‘I want to see the show,’” Mr. Castillo said.
It was new to both of them, Mrs. Castillo said. “We usually don’t see a show like this. ... I was, like, ‘it looks interesting, it looks beautiful.’ I just know Chinese culture is beautiful. I thought it would be a cool experience to have.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture before communism with stories, singing, and an orchestra.
“I loved it. I honestly do. It’s very entertaining. I’ve enjoyed it. Their outfits are beautiful. Everything’s great,” she said.

“The choreography is really awesome,” Mr. Castillo said. “The choreography is great. Like she said, the colors are great. I didn’t know that they had the back screen. That was pretty new.”
“[The backscreen] is pretty new. It’s interesting, like where they blend in, where they jump in. And it just matches perfectly, so that’s a plus, for sure,” Mrs. Castillo added.
Mr. Castillo especially liked the dance of the ‘Water Sleeves.’ He said, “I liked the long sleeves dance. For me, visually, it was the best one so far.”
Mrs. Castillo tried to figure out how the dancers drew in their sleeves with grace and style. “Yes, it’s very impressive where the girls’ sleeves were long, and then they sucked it in to make it short. I’m like, wait, how are they doing that? That was pretty impressive,” she said.
Many audience members comment on the energy that flows from the dances. Mr. Castillo called it “elegant.”
“The soprano, yes, she’s great,” Mr. Castillo said. “I was just enjoying her performance.”
Traditional Chinese culture was, as seen in the opening sequence, given by deities to humanity. China was once called “The Land of the Divine,” but it is new to many theatergoers.
Mr. Castillo said he learned a great deal about this ancient culture. “It’s great. We get to learn. Because, again, we didn’t know anything about this, and [Shen Yun] is where we experience this. We learn something new.”
“I’m still learning. What I’m learning right now is what Oliver and Sophia are saying. So, I’m just trying to pay as much attention as I can. But I am having a really good time,” Mr. Castillo said.
“Keep it up. Keep it going,” Mr. Castillo said. “You guys are doing a great job. I understand the discipline that they have to go through to do this, these performances. It’s very awesome. And I hope they keep going.”
Mrs. Castillo said, “They did an amazing job. They look like they put a lot of work into their performance, and they take a lot of pride in what they do.”
