ROSEMONT, Ill.— College professor Marina Kipnis and Alexander Kipnis, an IT professional, were mesmerized by the beauty of Shen Yun Performing Arts when they attended the company’s fourth performance at the Rosemont Theatre on April 26, to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

“It’s interesting, very incredible dancers. What really inspires me [is] how they express themselves—you basically don’t have to know Chinese to understand what’s going on,” Mr. Kipnis expressed.

“The dancing is incredible. All the synchronization of the moments—it’s just astonishing. Very enjoyable.”

Founded in 2006 by elite Chinese artists who fled persecution, the New York-based Shen Yun is dedicated to reviving the beauty and virtues of pre-communist China.

Its performance takes the audience through China’s dynasties and legends, while also raising awareness for the ongoing human rights challenges in present-day China.

Ms. Kipnis, too, was amazed by how skilled Shen Yun’s dancers are. She also loved the company’s use of a 3D animated backdrop and its seamless collaboration with the performers on stage to enhance storytelling.

This is “our first time. It’s really amazing. … I’m surprised and amazed by how [the dancers] move simultaneously on stage. ... When they disappear and reappear in the screen, it’s something very nice.”

She was especially impressed by the story-based dance recounting a famous scene from the Chinese classic novel “Journey to the West,” where the Tang Monk and his disciples traveled across Asia in search of sacred scriptures.

“That was kind of [like a] fairy tale, very beautiful and funny at the same time,” she noted.

Moreover, Ms. Kipnis loved that Shen Yun is reviving traditional Chinese culture and thought the evening was “a great experience.”

“I really recommend everyone to see it at least once in their life. … China has an ancient history and one of the oldest cultures in the world. I think that we all need to see something that comes back to the roots,” she shared.

“This culture, tradition, the costume, the atmosphere, the music is so nice—everything contributes to beautiful picture. It’s very nice to learn more about traditions.”

Mr. Kipnis would like all of Shen Yun’s performers to know that: “I really enjoyed the show.”

“I’m impressed with their performance, and I wish them to have only success in their future performances around the world. I hope there’s a full audience anywhere they go,” he said.

“Really, really enjoyable. Good luck to them and, really, I admire every single person on the stage.”
