Confederate Civil War re-enactors march towards Union lines during Pickett's Charge on the last day of a Battle of Gettysburg re-enactment on June 30, 2013 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Some 8,000 re-enactors from the Blue Gray Alliance participated in the event, marking the 150th anniversary of the July 1-3, 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia was routed during the doomed frontal assault, considered the turning point in the Civil War and a watershed moment in U.S. history. Union and Confederate armies suffered a combined total of up to 51,000 casualties over three days, the highest number of any battle in the four-year war. Pickett's charge was named for the Confederate Maj. General George Pickett, whose division of rebel troops was annihilated in the attack. (John Moore/Getty Images)
