The International Photography Awards (IPA) describes its mission: “To salute the achievements of the world’s finest photographers, to discover new and emerging talent, and to promote the appreciation of photography worldwide.”

In its twelfth year, IPA selects 45 images from both professional and amateur photographers in its annual competition to be shown at an exclusive exhibition in New York, with the best of the best embarking on a world tour. The much-coveted International Photographer of the Year award is announced at the Lucie Awards gala in October, with the winner receiving a $10,000 cash prize.

Submissions are currently being accepted for the 2014 awards.

The International Photographer of the Year award goes to professional photographers, but amateurs and students can compete for the Discovery of the Year award, also announced at the Lucie Awards gala. This award comes with a $5,000 cash prize.

The two other top awards are The Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year, both pros and non-pros also compete for this award. The award is based upon the photographer’s ability to tell a story with his or her photographs and this category receives a $5000 cash prize.
