Welcome to the world of Belgian pastries, including the Merveilleux, or “Marvelous.” These pastries are made with a light meringue base coated with fresh whipped cream and topped with another meringue, more whipped cream, and shavings of smooth white or dark chocolate.
Anne-Sophie Diotallevi brings these delicacies from Belgium at her new Upper East Side bakery, O Merveilleux! They’re available in bite-size or regular sizes, and in three different flavors: chocolate, white chocolate, and speculoos (gingerbread cookie).
She also serves Cramique and Craquelin, two variants of the Belgian brioche, Petit Choux (cream puffs), and Pain à la Grecque (a cream-filled bread with crystalized sugar)
The bakery has a communal wooden table for those wanting to enjoy goods on premises, and serves Counter Culture coffee, Belloqc Tea, and fruit juices.
