Dozens of pianists joined the 2022 NTD International Piano Competition in New York City, with preliminaries taking place on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30.
Six finalists were announced.
Antonii Baryshevskyi from Ukraine is a soloist with the National Philharmonie of Ukraine and first prize winner of the 2014 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. He will perform Liszt’s 2 Concert Etudes, S. 145 No. 1, “Waldesrauschen” and Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes.
Yung-Yi Chen from Taiwan debuted in 2009 at the age of 10 and has since performed on renowned stages across the world, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg. In the finals, Chen will perform Scarlatti’s Sonata in B minor, Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes No. 6, Chopin’s Nocturne in E flat major, and Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy.
Evangeliya Delizonas-Khukhua from Russia was born into a family of musicians and started on the piano at age 3. She is pursuing a DMA in piano performance at the USC Thornton School of Music with professor Stewart Gordon. In the finals, she will perform Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy and Franck’s Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue.
Trinity Goff from the United States is the 2020 winner of the Van Buren Concerto Competition and is currently studying with Jean-David Coen of Willamette University. In the finals, she will perform Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor and Schubert’s Sonata in C minor.
Aruth Masrangsan from Thailand won first prize and the Grand Prix of the 3rd Edition Piano Island Competition. In the finals, he will perform Chopin’s Nocturnes No. 1 and No. 2, Chopin’s Etudes No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz.
Jiusi (Jameson) Zhang from China recently won the 2022 PianoTexas International Piano Festival Concerto Competition and is currently pursuing a bachelor of music degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of maestro professor Dang Thai Son. In the finals, he will perform the Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D minor and Brahms’s Sonata No. 2 in F sharp minor.
