BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—Despite Election Day in Argentina, many people came to see the Shen Yun Performing Arts show at Auditorio Belgrano in Buenos Aires on Sunday evening, June 28.

At least half of the audience in the packed theater were of Chinese descent—people drawn to the show by Shen Yun’s renown for presenting China’s authentic, 5,000-year-old culture through classical Chinese dance and music.

Taken by the beauty and grace of the artists, the crowd clapped enthusiastically before dance numbers ended.

After the first song by vocalist Tian Ge, who sang Who am I?”, the audience responded with loud whistles and called for an encore. Many “bravos” could be heard throughout the theater.

A trademark of the New York-based Shen Yun production is its story-based legends of heroism, modern-day tales of courage, and folklore traditions from China’s many regions, all perfectly synchronized with stunning 3-D backdrops of panoramic scenes and groundbreaking music of Western and Chinese composition.

Fine artist Ivonn attended the lavish performance with her friend Susana, and both were pleasantly surprised. “Very pretty, really, very pleasant, very entertaining too. Very good. Very, very good,” she said.

Ivonn said the dances were very joyful and showed the quality of the dancer’s performance to be of a high caliber.

Susana enjoyed the dramatizations: “It is very well done, all of it, the fabrics, everything. Fabulous! What I liked very much is the acting.”

Mr. Borger, a businessman, was delighted to see authentic Chinese culture presented on stage in Argentina. “I was always fascinated by Chinese culture, and today I have the pleasure to see the manifestation here in Argentina, so double-attractive and valid. Very colorful ... very coordinated, very interesting,” he said.

Thunderous drum rhythms moved Mr. Borger to the core: “I was touched by it—strong, very well-coordinated, well done, all very good. Truly extraordinary!”

Mr. Borger, an important member of the Jewish community, could relate to the show, identifying particularly to the discrimination and violence depicted in the vignette Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, which tells of the persecution of Falun Gong today in China, a persecution that is destroying innocent lives and breaking apart families.

“It is like we are getting together in different stages. The Chinese culture and the Jewish culture are ancient. We are talking about more than 5,000 years. Without a doubt, we have many things in common, especially that piece … about the discrimination. … I feel I identify with it.”

He said he recommends everything that is culturally good. “I will recommend it for sure.”

‘Just perfect’

Businesswoman Ms. Klimovsky was also amazed by the fluidity of the dancers, soloists, musicians, original compositions, and skillful choreography: “Very, very pretty, very cleanly done, very colorful, very good choreography—the backdrops, very pretty!

“The one I liked most was the one with the white flower [The Udumbara’s Bloom, a dance]. The choreography is very well-put-together. When the flower opens, they [the dancers] also open. In general, everything is beautiful, but that one is just perfect.”

Prolonged applause through three curtain calls brought the evening to a successful close.

Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
