Actress Zooey Deschanel, who is also the vocalist for indie rock duo ‘She and Him’, has signed up to sing for a Winnie the Pooh movie soundtrack that is sure to appeal not only to children, but their parents as well.
“I wanted something that a kid could see now, and then hear in like 15, 20 years and still like the song, and something that their parents would like when they see the movie,” the 31-year old told Associated Press in an interview.
Zooey Deschanel told AP that she was a big Winnie the Pooh fan during her childhood and still listens to children’s music by Harry Nilsson and Carole King. Deschanel also wanted to connect with the audience by making the lyrics of the soundtrack open for interpretation.
“You want to hit the point and hit the themes without being too specific, because if you’re too specific... it’s very unsubtle,” Zooey Deschanel said in the interview. For Deschanel, however, Walt Disney’s Winnie the Pooh is all about friendship. “I just liked the way that all the different characters have their own flaws and they all help each other out,” she told iVillage.
Even though Deschanel does not have any children with her husband, rocker Ben Gibbard, who she married ni 2009, she’s going to be an aunt soon since her sister, Bones series star Emily Deschanel, is expecting her first child. Zooey Deschanel will also appear in the lead role of Fox TV series ‘New Girl’ this fall. The actress, who had supporting roles in films such as Elf and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” recently had lead roles in “Yes Man” and “(500) Days of Summer.”
Winnie the Pooh was released in theaters this past Friday, and currently has a 91% user rating on the movie rating website Rotten Tomatoes.
