A cool and creamy smoothie is one of the most refreshing ways to start the day. The flavor combinations are endless, ranging from classic strawberry banana smoothies to zippy raspberry ginger smoothies, and even green smoothies made with spinach, pear, and, ginger. Busy mornings mean that I prefer to make a smoothie that’s ready in just five minutes like this simple strawberry cloud smoothie. It’s a combination of fruit, yogurt, and milk (both dairy and nondairy work), but the cloudlike look and the creamy texture make me feel like I’m starting the day in style.

It’s almost too pretty to drink. Coconut-flavored yogurt does double duty adding flavor to the smoothie and giving the glass a gorgeous wispy cloud look.

Key Ingredients in Strawberry Cloud Smoothie

Strawberries: Start with frozen strawberries so that the smoothie is chilled without adding ice. Use good-quality frozen strawberries for the best flavor, and if the strawberries are large, cut them in half before adding to the blender.

Coconut-flavored yogurt: Coconut-flavored yogurt adds extra creaminess and a subtle tropical flavor to the smoothie. Swirl a few tablespoons of the yogurt against the side of the glasses to give this cloudlike smoothie its signature look.

Milk: Use any type of dairy or nondairy milk that you like in this recipe, preferably unsweetened to let the fruit flavors stand out.

Strawberry Cloud Smoothie

Serves 2
  • 1 3/4 cups unsweetened dairy or nondairy milk
  • 1/2 cup coconut-flavored yogurt, divided
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries (about 10 ounces)
1. Place 1 3/4 cups unsweetened milk, 1/4 cup of the coconut-flavored yogurt, and 2 cups frozen strawberries in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.

2. Spoon the remaining 1/4 cup coconut-flavored yogurt down the sides of two tall glasses (2 tablespoons per glass). Divide the smoothie evenly between the glasses. Serve with straws.

Recipe notes: This smoothie is best served immediately. Refrigerate any leftovers for up to 1 hour.
