Women Chefs Fight Cancer

NEW YORK— Top female chefs in New York City are joining forces on Monday, Sept. 23, to fight cancer at Chelsea Piers.

More than two dozen of New York City’s top female chefs will serve dishes at the 10th anniversary of “A Second Helping of Life” benefit.

Participating chefs include: Amanda Freitag, Amanda Cohen, Anita Lo, Alex Guarnaschelli, among others. Author and restaurant critic Ruth Reichl will host the fundraiser.

The event is run by SHARE, a non-profit that raises funds and encourages self-help for women with breast, ovarian, or metastatic breast cancer. It provides free services such as helplines, support groups, educational programs and public health initiatives.

Activities include a tasting reception as well as live and silent auctions.

New York City’s top women chefs and restaurant owners have partnered with SHARE for nine years to raise over $3 million to help women with cancer.

Celebrity sous-chefs are matched with the chefs.

“It’s the best food in New York—cooked, made and invented by women,” said award-winning actress Kathleen Chalfant, who has been participating as a sous-chef since the beginning.
