NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ Friday evening performance at David H. Koch Theater at the Lincoln Center, captured the imagination of the audience, including two doctors from Long Island who came to see the show.
Doctors Odilze Vital and Mitchell Kurk, were enthralled by the performance by Shen Yun New York Company, one of three companies currently on world tour.
“The show is amazing, it’s like being in a dream,” Dr. Vital said. It’s like “being in another world. I think that that is the real message of the show.”
She commented on the dream-like fluidity of the dance pieces. “Everything’s a poem,” she said. “I don’t have words to describe it, to tell you the truth. Everything’s a poem. It’s like a dream. A dream come true.”
Shen Yun is the world’s premier Chinese performing arts group. The New York-based company seeks to restore authentic Chinese culture lost over years of communist rule in China.
Dr. Vital is a doctor in the field of cosmetology in New York. Dr. Kurk, a doctor of alternative and traditional medicine, couldn’t agree more with Vital’s assessment.
“The message [of Shen Yun] is hope, the future, and the evolving of China into a better place,” said Dr. Kurk, commenting on a few scenes from modern day China that Shen Yun depicts, including the suppression of practitioners of Falun Dafa. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is banned in China and has been severely persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
“And hopefully the [contemporary] Chinese culture will evolve into a little more democracy and less tyranny. It’s a wonderful show,” said Dr. Kurk.
