Concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center will feature jazz-fan favorites through the holidays and into the new year.
Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will return to the Rose Theater for their annual Christmas swing show on Dec. 13. This is always a joyful event and should be especially so this year, with special guest vocalists Catherine Russell and Kenny Washington.
Then on January 11-13, Wynton Marsalis will return and, with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, reimagine Benny Goodman’s historic 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall. The music director of the concert will be sax player Victor Goines and special guests will include clarinetists Anat Cohen, Ken Peplowski, and Janelle Reichman, and multi-instrumentalist Ted Nash. A free pre-concert discussion precedes each show.
Other upcoming shows of interest at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola include bassist/bandleader/composer Omer Avital on Dec. 5; pianist Renee Rosnes on Dec. 7; the New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band featuring Ted Nash and playing his music (including excerpts from his Grammy winning “Presidential Suite”) on Dec. 11; trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg on Dec. 14; pianist Dick Hyman on Dec. 18; Sherman Irby’s “New Christmas Story” on Dec. 20; Carlos Henriquez and his Octet playing the Latin Side of Dizzy Gillespie on Dec. 26, and the New Year’s eve show featuring Henriquez and Paquito D’Rivera.
