MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Tennessee Rep. Curry Todd was at the lavish Orpheum Theatre for the afternoon performance of the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“This is something else, with a different cultural level that we don’t usually get to see a lot and experience—very enlightening,” Mr. Todd said.

Every year, Shen Yun unveils a new line-up of dances, songs, and music. Mr. Todd appreciated every aspect of the dances: “all the different moves they do, the coordination and the synchronizing together, all the cultural spirit, and all the different dances.” “It is very, very unique and very well put together,” he said.

Leann, who works for a medical-device company, accompanied Mr. Todd to the show. She found the show “profound” and said, “A lot of what we have now in the entertainment industry is over-the-top stimulation—the shock factor—and it is nice to see just a true art form, so I really enjoyed [it].”

Shen Yun brings to life 5,000 years of Chinese history and artistic traditions. Leann said she found the show to be about “the human spirit and perseverance” as seen from an artistic standpoint and said that she really enjoyed the show.
