Few people know it as the snowiest place on earth. But that’s exactly what Sukayu Onsen, Japan is: 40-foot snow canyons, blinding blizzards, and the northernmost primates, Japanese snow monkeys.

In mountain in northern Japan is place called Sukayu Onsen. In typical year you will see 50 to 60 feet of snow some year 70 to 80 feet of snow.

The mountains in Japan are so snowy because it is exposed to cold Siberia wind which slams into mountains of Japan and forces air to rise and that brings tremendous amount of snow.

In this region are hot springs where you can find snow monkeys. Those animals cannot be found anywhere else in the world. They use hot springs to stay warm during the cold winter months. Temperature of the hot springs is over 100 F.

Unfortunately climate change has negative impact on this place and in the future it will not stay the same.
