MISSISSAUGA, Canada—Sixteen members of the same family went to see Shen Yun Performing Arts for its final show at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre on Saturday night.

“Our mother surprised us with a Christmas gift. She goes to shows at the Living Arts Centre all the time and this is what she got for us,” said Mr. Odd who works in the financial sector as a vice president.

“I wanted them to see something different, so I thought this would be a good choice, and it was,” said his mother, Mrs. Odd.

“I loved it. We enjoyed it very much. I said if they didn’t like it they could throw popcorn at me and they didn’t—they didn’t throw popcorn so it worked out well.”

Mr. Odd thought Shen Yun, with its classical Chinese dance, full orchestra, and vocal soloists, was a good choice.

“It was great,” he said. “I enjoyed the choreography and the costumes—very colourful. It was very nice, a great show.”

“I have four sons who are here with their families, and the other son’s son is here. I have seven grandchildren,” said Mrs. Odd.

Mr. Odd, the oldest son, said that what he learned from the show, which portrays the essence and values of Chinese traditional culture, was “a lot of faith and good things—just a very good show.”

Shen Yun has now finished its tour of eastern Canada. The New York-based performing arts company will tour parts of the United States before returning to western Canada in March for shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, and Vancouver.
