Shen Yun ‘Unbelievable’

”I love it. Ever since I saw it advertised in the paper, I have wanted to come, and we finally were able to do it, and it’s everything that I had hoped or expected it would be, plus more.”

COSTA MESA, Calif.—Opening at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company, committed to reviving the authentic, majestic Chinese culture and bringing it to the world, graced the stage of Segerstrom Hall on this beautiful spring night, May 6.

Paul Selzer, an attorney, and his wife, Kay Selzer, a psychotherapist, from Palm Springs, were among the audience enjoying the classical Chinese dance, music, and folklore.

Mrs. Selzer said, ”I love it. Ever since I saw it advertised in the paper, I have wanted to come, and we finally were able to do it, and it’s everything that I had hoped or expected it would be, plus more.”

Her husband offered his impressions of Shen Yun, saying, ”Love it. You know what, it’s all so beautiful, the dancing is wonderful, the choreography, the people working together, both the men and the women—unbelievable.”

Commenting on the handmade costumes, Mr. Selzer remarked, “Oh, hard to describe. As I was sitting there, I was thinking, how could I describe this to someone else, and it’s very difficult, because it is so unusual and so beautiful.”

Mrs. Selzer added, ”I love mythology, I love the stories, I love the culture. I think the artwork, the backdrops are just amazing, as the dancing and the way the different levels of reality are presented, I think are just amazing, where the spiritual [beings] come down to earth, I think is wonderful—I love it all.

“In my work, I embrace all of the different stories of reality, of spirituality; I think we’ve all got our stories. I think ultimately it’s all one, but just a different way of approaching it. I love it, and that’s what I meant when I said I love the story, I love the spirituality and I love the mythology.

”We’d come back in a minute,” Mr. Selzer reiterated enthusiastically.

Mrs. Selzer regretted that her children were not able to join them.

“I wish my children were here, because I’d wanted them to see it also, and it just didn’t work. Anyway, we’re just glad we’re here.”
