HSINCHU, Taiwan—Sun Donglian, head of Round Seat Art Center, watched the first show of New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts in Hsinchu, March 19. He said, “The Shen Yun show is art raised to a sublime level, carrying many inner meanings.”

From various perspectives, Mr. Sun talked about his feelings watching Shen Yun. “From the artistic perspective, I had never watched any show like this. For example, take the backdrops. Dancers emerge from the backdrops, extending the heavenly world to the earthly world onstage, merging heaven with people. This merging is very appealing and also a breakthrough in art. Besides, the performers are equipped with many advanced dancing skills. As a result, I am very, very touched while watching the show.

“I am touched, because I can see the performers’ complete devotion to passing down culture. In the course of watching the show, Shen Yun is deeply etched in my mind. I feel very grateful for being purified by this art.”

Mr. Sun has been to many areas in Tibet with other painters and has attended many local performances. He said, “Shen Yun demonstrates the essence of Tibetan culture through its dancing programs, body language, and movements of the dancers. I think it is very good.

“The construction of the Qinghai-Tibet railway allows the Chinese communist regime to ruin the modesty and innocence of Tibetans. Sincerity and simplicity typical of Tibetans is gradually vanishing.”

Shen Yun’s Tibetan Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain brought him warmth. “Shen Yun combines cultivation of humanities with art based on traditional culture. The program is presented through dancing at a high level. Therefore, audiences feel warm and touched. As far as I am concerned, the whole course of the show reveals the [Buddha] Law on earth.”

The Round Seat Art Center set up by Mr. Sun is respected by many company owners in Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park. He also befriends many scholars and artists both in Taiwan and across the strait.
