TOOWOOMBA, Australia—Calligrapher, Ms. Bradshaw was excited to see Shen Yun when it came to the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba on April 13.

“It has been wonderful to see this. The costuming was just beautiful, and the dancing was just superb, and I am just fascinated to watch their hands. Beautiful movements. They are just so elegant,” she said.

Ms. Bradshaw said that she taught calligraphy in the European style, but she was aware of the rich tradition of calligraphy in Chinese culture.

She explained that she had come to see Shen Yun because she was interested in Chinese culture and the people.

“Chinese culture is an old culture. I have always been fascinated by the talent of the Chinese people,” she added.

Ms. Bradshaw said she also appreciated the sensitivity Shen Yun had shown to Western audiences in their selection of music.

“To my taste, knowing that Chinese music, it is different [from] ours. I always thought, to my ear, it was a little bit discordant,” she said. Shen Yun, however, had an accessible blend of Eastern and Western influences which she found “ “very, very good to listen to.”

Mr. Booshang, who works for the Queensland Department of Tourism and Sport, also saw Shen Yun at its premier in Toowoomba and was impressed.

“I thought the show was extremely well put together. The dancers were well coordinated. I thought the colours were brilliant. The storylines were exceptional.”

Mr. Booshang thought the singers “were extremely good,” and the dancers were “very, very skillful.”

He was also impressed with the way digital technology had been incorporated in to the show saying, “I thought it was very interactive the way the storyline showed the actual beginning of the story, and the dancers blended in on the stage, and then it ended with the projection on the back of the stage.”

He said he would tell all his friends that Shen Yun was spectacular and would recommend that they definitely see it.
