SAN FRANCISCO—The first night of the 2009 Shen Yun Performing Arts Show in San Francisco got off to a great start according to Korean singer and musician, Jeff Park, from Los Angeles, who commented that the performance was “fantastic, very nice.” Jeff is a musician of jazz, pop, and rock and roll music.
A feature of Shen Yun performances is the story-based dance dramas depicting the spirit and essence of China’s age-old culture, something that Mr. Park really loved. “The Chinese have a big continent, and a long history, so, there are many stories that can be derived from its history. I loved the stories, and I love Chinese culture,” he said.
Mr. Park also enjoyed the Shen Yun Orchestra which combines traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments. He said the orchestra “uses a lot of [traditional] Chinese instruments. I could really hear those instruments, which they apparently combined with western instruments. Yet the sounds of the Chinese instruments were very pronounced. They did a great job of combining the instruments of the two cultures together. It was very good.”
Mr. O’Connor, a small business owner of a jewelry store, was also in the audience. He said the show was fantastic and he commented that he enjoyed the dances that dealt with issues in contemporary China, in which spiritual belief is persecuted.
“The dancing-the color was fantastic!”
Mr. O'Connor commented that he could appreciate the difficulty of the jumps and the abilities of the dancers. He was also an art student in his youth, “so I appreciate all the blending of scenery with the clothing and the garments that they wear. I have a trained eye. That’s one of the reasons why I decided to get seats up front, so I could see the clothing, and the ornamental designs of the costumes. I really appreciate it”.
Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will perform in San Francisco from Jan. 2-7.
