KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—“I feel deeply touched. The show makes me shed tears,” said Dr. Tzeng Dong-Sheng in an emotional tone, while he pointed his finger at his eyes. Dr. Tzeng is the Chief of the Department of Psychiatry, Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital. He made the statement after watching the Shen Yun performance in Kaohsiung on the evening of April 11.
“I think the Shen Yun performance is good at delivering the connotation and enlightening the spirits. The vocalist truly touched me,” said Dr. Tzeng, referring to the singing solo Hesitate No Longer performed by soprano Ms. Huang Pi-ju. He added, “I feel we all go adrift painstakingly in our lives. However, the real enlightenment to us should be ‘altruism.’ We all know that none of fame, gain, and love can be taken away at our death, yet we run after matters throughout our lives. The vocal music makes me shed tears. It is very touching.”
Dr. Tzeng also praised the ingenious variations in Shen Yun’s dancing programs. He said: “There have been very complex variations in the formation of the dancing group as well as the individual dancing artists throughout the show. At the beginning, I was worried that they might run into one another. Of course, that did not occur.” He was also attracted by the delicate silver adornments and rhythmic sound effect of the dancing artists performing In a Miao Village.
In the show, the stories and connotation about Falun Gong were presented. Referring to the Chinese communist regime’s forced organ harvesting from live Falun Gong practitioners, Dr. Tzeng, a medical doctor for the armed forces, commented: “People of the medical circle know this is a very serious matter. People with conscience will definitely condemn the brutality of the Chinese communist regime.”
The live musical accompaniment provided by the Shen Yun Orchestra helped shape a brilliant atmosphere in the auditorium. Dr. Tzeng spoke with praise: “This is the first time that a Shen Yun performance incorporates a live orchestra. The coordination between traditional Chinese musical instruments and Western counterparts has been excellent. The conductor has a very good grasp of the atmosphere in the auditorium.”
He also admired Shen Yun’s presentation of the cultural characteristics of various ethnic groups, as well as the connotation of traditional values; such as loyalty and filial piety. He was surprised to know that a lot of Shen Yun artists performing the quintessence of the Chinese culture on the stage actually grew up overseas. He emphasized, “Shen Yun promotes our Chinese culture to another realm. I think this has very important significance.”
