SYDNEY—Petros Nicholodas, a managing director, and Puya Nicholodas, were at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 19, seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company performing in Sydney on its 2011 World Tour.

During intermission, Mr. Nicholodas said Shen Yun was “very enjoyable,” and he was looking forward to seeing the second half of the show.

The New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Classical Chinese dance has a vast training system, and is a dance form still mostly new to the West. You could say it carries the essence of Chinese cultural expression in its movements, postures, and aesthetics, according to the company’s website.

Mr. Nicholodas said he was very impressed with the skill and coordination of the dancers. “It is very well coordinated, very well organised, very colourful, entertaining.

“I think it’s quite clever how it’s being coordinated. The choreography is extremely difficult with so many people on the stage at one time, and to do it at such perfection clearly requires much discipline, training and proficiency.”

Mrs. Nicholodas added, “It’s quite inspiring too.

“The impression is there is more than this physical existence, there is some other worlds and other beings as well.”

Mr. Nicholodas particularly enjoyed the dance Little Mischievous Monks.

“The Buddhist monks, it was lovely. The innocence, I identify with the innocence; this is what children should be like, to play, to be mischievous, but to be innocent at the same time. That’s very much absent in today’s society. When you see it depicted like that you can identify it,” he said.
