MELBOURNE—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company continues its run in Melbourne, performing at the opulent Regent Theatre on Thursday evening, March 3, where the audience enjoyed the grand display of ancient China’s artistic traditions.

Three friends were at the theatre to see tonight’s performance, and they offered their impressions during intermission.

Irene Higgins, an investor who previously worked in fashion and cosmetics, said, “We think it is fabulous—the costumes are sensational.

“Amazing! I know the Chinese wear a lot of silk as you can see, and the colours were all coordinated with the screen … the costumes are part of the act actually.”

One of the features that strikes audience members most is Shen Yun’s colorful costumes. These hundreds of gorgeous, hand-made garments span China’s dynasties, regions, and ethnic groups, according to the program.

Angelica, a student and ballet dancer, commented on the strength of the male dancers. She was particularly impressed by Herding on the Grasslands and was also amazed by the colours presented on stage.

According to the program, in this dance, dancers evoke powerful images of Mongolia’s unbridled wilderness. Horsemen form a vision of exhilarating strength as they gallop beneath blue skies. Outspread, fluid arm movements resemble eagles in flight, while energetic steps express a dauntless grace.

Angelica enjoyed the dancing, saying, “The women—they made it look very flowing—which is amazing.”

She said she would definitely recommend the show to her friends, saying it is “worthwhile coming to, amazing show!”

The third friend, Sasha Hawes, who owns a coffee bar and was previously a fashion photographer, also praised the colours of the performance and the dance.

“I think the colour scheme and the dance, and the theme of the story and the whole thing—I like it very much … I think it’s got a beautiful presentation.

Sasha agreed that the costumes were “absolutely superb, the colour scheme … just beautiful.

“It lifts your spirit, it is just beautiful—it is much better than just going to the movies or drinking a cup of coffee. It is much better to come here,” she said.

The other two young ladies both agreed and said, “Come and see Shen Yun!”
