A waiter who works at a Dallas-area Applebee’s restaurant received an unforgettable tip.
“They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu,” Kasey Simmons said of a customer who left the tip. “Flavored water.”
The bill for the water was a mere $0.37, but the tip was $500.
Apparently, the tip was left because of Simmons’s act of compassion a day prior when he paid for a woman’s groceries at a Kroger checkout line.
“It was only $17, but it’s not about the money. It’s about showing someone you care,” Simmons explained to local ABC affiliate WFAA-TV.
The daughter of the woman visited his workplace and left the massive tip.
A note that was written on a napkin explained why.
“My mother did not need you to help her, but you made her year,” the daughter of the unnamed woman wrote. It went on to explain that the day Simmons paid for the groceries was the third anniversary of her husband’s death.
“I had no idea that was going on, but I knew something was making her sad,” Simmons added, explaining why he bought the groceries.
“Kasey, I want to thank you for being the person you are ... You made my mother’s day wonderful. She has been smiling since you did what you did,” the napkin note read in part.
