A good day is more about what you put into it than what you get out of it.
When was the last time you had a good day? What makes a day into a good day? Each night, when your head hits the pillow and you reflect upon the day gone by, do you tend to feel satisfied and content or disappointed and frustrated?
Author William A. Ward once said, “Judge each day not by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant.” Each day, we get to manage what we choose to focus on, how we decide to feel about one thing or another, what actions we take, how we treat those around us, and what we aim for. They all play a role in how each day pans out.
When we are focused on just “harvesting,” as Ward put it, we are centered on our own gain. On the other hand, if we focus on “planting seeds,” we are acting in service to our future selves and others. In what ways can you plant seeds each day?
Spiritual
Taking time to nurture your spirit each and every day is like planting seeds of wisdom in your heart and mind each day. Whatever you believe, take time to pray, to meditate, to practice, and to study.Fitness
Our level of physical fitness has a huge effect on our ability to do what we should do in life. With every healthy choice—such as getting enough exercise, sleep, and hydration—we are planting seeds of good health and strength to carry us through.Home
At home, when we take care of our spaces, keep things clean and tidy, fix what’s broken, declutter, organize, decorate, and do what we can to make it beautiful, we are planting seeds of beauty to inspire not only ourselves but also anyone we share our space with.Family
Our family relationships require constant nurturing and care. We should set aside selfishness and complaining to instead look at the good in others. When we love and care for our family members, we are sowing seeds of family bonds that will strengthen and grow through generations.Work
We should take initiative, pick up the slack, and put our gifts, blessings, and talents to their best use to live up to our fullest potential. When we do our absolute best at work, we bless everyone we work with and make the world a better place.Community
In our communities, when we do our part to be good neighbors, to care for those around us, to support good causes, to take care of the environment, and to lend a helping hand, the ripple effect of our energy and actions is immeasurable.
