To the eye of the child, the world is fresh and new. To the eye of great photographers, the world is equally beguiling.
Those artists exhibiting photos of the natural world at the Eretz Israel Museum in a Tel Aviv suburb exemplify that ideal.
The exhibit, titled “Global Nature, Local Nature” is one of the most important of its kind in the world.
Sponsored by the Natural History Museum in London, England as well as the BBC, the exhibit, now in its 49th year, is showing for the first time in Israel.
Eretz Israel Museum is also sponsoring an exhibition of Israeli wildlife photographs alongside the international one.
“Global Nature, Local Nature” is made up of striking photos selected from an international competition for wildlife photos. There were 48,000 entries from 98 countries and approximately 100 pieces were finally selected.
On display are works from many countries, including Israel and Canada. Two wildlife “photos of the year” are particularly stunning—Spanish photographer Jordi Chias Pujol’s “Turtle Gem,” depicting green sea turtles in the Canary Islands, Spain, and Dutch photographer Jasper Doest’s “Relaxation,” showing a macaque monkey in Japan.
This unique collection of wildlife photographs shows visitors fleeting moments of action and survival in the wild from all corners of the globe.
The exhibit, which opened Jun.3, will be on view until Sept. 3 at the Eretz Israel Museum. For more information and to view a selection of these photographs, visit eretzmuseum.org.il/e/285
