On stages in Toronto since November 2007, the moves and music of Dirty Dancing continue to draw full houses at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.

The magical chemistry between dance and song almost makes it impossible to stay in your seat, and familiar hits like “I’ve Had the Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes,” and “She’s like the Wind” get the audience singing along.

Dirty Dancing is the story of a girl named Baby and her family’s trip to a resort for a holiday in 1963. It’s the story of a girl coming of age and the boy who captures her heart. It’s also the story of a different time, and the clothes and music invoke the 60s, allowing audiences to feel the texture of a decade long passed.

And Patrick Swayze isn’t the only hunky dance instructor who can get an audience going. The female portion of the audience screamed when Johnny Castle (now played by Jake Simons) appeared to teach Baby dance classes, moving to the tunes of Broadway-quality music.

Before Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evening shows during August, audiences can go to the show an hour early and have free dance classes with members of the dance company and special guests.

Dirty Dancing will play until November 2nd.
