NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts returned to the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater on June 23, after its success last January with sold out shows.
Elise Knutsen, a reporter for a local New York media company, thought Shen Yun was a tremendous performance. “Visually it was spectacular. I was blown away. I thought it was great. Really great.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra combines instruments from the East and West creating a “one-of-a-kind orchestra, with its all-original compositions. The result—two great classical music traditions producing one fresh, unexpected sound,” according to their website.
“The music was actually one of my favorite parts, I thought it was phenomenal,” said Ms. Knutsen. “The ways that the traditional Western orchestra mixed with the traditional Chinese music, I thought it was flawless. I really genuinely thought it was flawless. It complemented everything really perfectly.”
Shen Yun expands over 5,000 years of Chinese culture, and uses classical Chinese dance as a medium of expression to portray the inner meanings of its history and culture.
“It’s spectacular,” said Ms. Knutsen, “It really showed the diversity of cultures that are within China and that most people don’t hear about. I thought that was a real success of the show.”
