WASHINGTON—Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen welcomed four Shen Yun Performing Arts members residing in the 8th District, which he represents, at his congressional office on May 25. He presented each young artist with a citation.
The four Shen Yun Performing Arts members are on break after finishing their 2011 world tour. They are principal dancer Tony Xue from North Bethesda, principal dancer Faustina Quach from Silver Spring, leading dancer Brian Nieh from Silver Spring, and violinist Jeff Lai from North Potomac.
Van Hollen was delighted about the fact that there are many artistic talents in Montgomery County, especially in his district. At the meeting, Shen Yun Performing Arts members shared their experiences in the past three years’ world tour and how worldwide audiences received their arts and messages. Van Hollen praised their contribution for bridging Eastern and Western cultures and art.
The citations are given in recognition of “your contribution in bridging Eastern and Western cultures through your outstanding work with Shen Yun Performing Arts and your effort to restore and revive performance of traditional Chinese arts.”
Van Hollen felt saddened to hear about Chinese Communist Party (CCP) interference of the Shen Yun Performing Arts tour to Hong Kong. Van Hollen stated that he enthusiastically supports Shen Yun Performing Arts, and the artists in his district in particular.
Van Hollen said he hopes more artistic talents from his district will be selected to join Shen Yun Performing Arts in the future.
