Crispy Sugar Cookies
A versatile recipe, great for cut-outs.
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup sugar, plus 1/4 cup
1 egg
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a large bowl, combine butter, sugars, egg, oil, and vanilla. With an electric mixer cream items together. In another bowl, add flour, soda, salt, and cream of tartar. Slowly beat in flour mixture to butter mix.
Roll into small balls and toss into a bowl of sugar until fully coated. (For a more colorful version, add green and red decorating sugar in bowl of sugar.) Use the bottom of a glass or cup to flatten. Bake for 10 minutes. Let stand in pan for 2 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool.
