Shen Yun’s all-original compositions feature a perfect harmony of classical music from the East and West. The Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra performance features Erhu (a two-stringed Chinese instrument) solos, imperial-style marches, and folk-inspired melodies, along with timeless orchestral classics by Tchaikovsky, Smetana, and Gounod.
“The music they’ve created is such an excellent combination of traditional melodies,” said Dr. Richard Webb, organist, musicologist, and professor of Southern University.
“Delightful,” said Per Brevig, conductor and professor of The Juilliard School. “They blend the Chinese instruments so very well with the Western instruments.”
“Really wonderful! I’d be interested in playing some of this music or trying some of it myself,” said Charles Castleman, virtuoso violinist and professor of the Eastman School of Music.
