A company called Natural Machines has created a device that can 3D print full meals, from chicken nuggets to pizza to salads.
It’s called Foodini, and it prints food using edible materials pressed out of stainless capsules. It is the same technology as a 3D printer, but with plastics there is just one melting point, whereas with food it’s different temperature, consistency and texture. Also, food doesn’t hold the shape as well as plastic. After the food is printed, it has to be cooked like a traditional meal. Future models will completely cook the food. Foodini will first be meant for a kitchen professionals, but a consumer version is coming for around 2 000 dollars mass manufacturing expect to start in late 2015.
