Norwegian composer Terje Isungset plays a horn made from ice, one of several instruments designed and created by the artist/musician using natural elements such as birch, granite, and slate. The ice instruments are carved from 600-year-old ice from the Jostedalsbreen glacier in Norway.

Isungset, an accomplished percussionist and composer, started out in jazz and traditional Scandinavian music and has progressed to creating highly atmospheric sound poems. He also writes music for theater and ballet.

Isungset performed his CD Iceman at London’s Somerset House on Jan. 9 was performed using the ice instruments, with singer Lena Nymark in a specially constructed igloo.
