NEW YORK—A group of professionals enjoyed many aspects of Shen Yun Performing Arts Company at David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center on June 23.

Averell Fisk, an investment banker who lives in New York City, said, “I think the energy is wonderful.”

Mr. Fisk praised the dancers and the music. “I thought the costumes were wonderful. The dancers were extremely talented. We loved the drummers and the music.”

His wife, interior designer Kirsten Fisk, said she responded to the visual aspect and to the stories, “I think it is a spectacle. It is absolutely magnificent visually. It is my first time, so I am getting educated about Falun Gong ... The beauty of it. It is very spiritual. It is very moving, and I am enjoying it so much.”

Nelson Happy, a lawyer who lives in New York City, said he agreed with Mr. Fisk, “and the blending of the traditional Chinese instruments and Western instruments makes a very different sound and works very, very, well together.” The Shen Yun Orchestra is unique in that it combines classical Western instruments and Eastern instruments.

The New York Company presents narrative dances from ancient Chinese history and contemporary life in China. According to the program, the artists believe Chinese culture is “a precious gift worth keeping, and worth sharing with all of you.”

Robin McFadden, owner of a staffing company for architects, said the “dancing and the costume and the … singing, the music, the drums, are absolutely magnificent.” But more than the theatrical excellence, he enjoyed the meaning.

“Even more so than that, the message that they are trying to get across is so important, and it brings awareness for everybody else to know what is happening right now in China. I think that is very important and they put it across in a beautiful way,” said McFadden.
