Conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin has been named the incoming music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra beginning with the 2012–2013 season and immediately takes on the role of Music Director Designate, according to a statement.
Canadian national Nezet-Seguin said of the appointment, “I fell in love with music when I heard The Philadelphia Orchestra as a young boy, on a recording of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony with Eugene Ormandy. Now I am deeply honored and thrilled to be named Music Director of this extraordinary ensemble.“
