PHILADELPHIA—Music teacher Susan Munzer caught Shen Yun Performing Arts on Feb. 23 at the Academy of Music.
“It was spectacular, it was inspiring, it was exquisitely beautiful,” said Ms. Munzer after she saw the Shen Yun New York Company perform. She teaches music at a Quaker boarding school and also gives private singing lessons.
She said: “The music was just wonderful. I felt the ancient Chinese instruments were just exquisite. Everything about it was just perfect.”
Shen Yun’s dance performances are accompanied by the Shen Yun New York Compnay Orchestra, which incorporates traditional Chinese instruments alongside a full Western orchestra. Along with dances, Shen Yun Performing Arts includes a few solo Bel Canto style vocals.
Ms. Munzer said the singers were wonderful. Not wanting to single them out she continued, “but just everything, the costumes, the music, the movements, the dance...”
She said watching Shen Yun “makes life more beautiful, it makes everything better to see something like this.”
Ms. Munzer said the performance is “very special, very unique, very unusual, beautiful to the eyes, beautiful to the ears, and very much a part of the heart.”
“It’s even better than I thought it was going to be,” said Ms. Munzer, who said she planned to return to see the performance again next year.
